Monday Morning Prophecy #12 – Shepherds Would Worship Him

cross-pictureLast week we looked at the Old Testament prophecy that said the angels would worship the coming Messiah. This week we will look at a prophecy related to the shepherds to whom the angels came to announce the Good News of the birth of Jesus.  In Psalm 72 we read:

May desert tribes bow down before him, and his enemies lick the dust!  [Psalms 72:9]

Other translations render “desert tribes” as “they that dwell in the wilderness” and “desert nomads.”  This is a description of shepherds.  So, this Psalm can rightly be interpreted to prophecy that shepherds would worship the Messiah.

BIG NEWS ABOUT THE BLOG PATROL

The Blog Patrol is now three months old, and I have had a great time putting together every week. I’ve learned a lot. I’ve found a lot of great blogs out there, and I’ve gotten a lot of great feedback. So…I’m changing it up.  The truth is, this one weekly entry takes up a large chunk of my time. That time is starting to take away from my priorities in life…my God, my family and my ministry to kids. So, I’ve decided, at least temporarily to change things. Going forward, The Blog Patrol will be a monthly series rather than weekly. I can’t promise how soon after the end of each month I will get it out, but I am going to do my best. Also, over the last several months, The Blog Patrol has become increasingly focus on the issues of children’s ministry, kids and parenting. Without intending it, my love and God’s will for my life has had a significant impact on this series. So, I’ve decided for the time being I will be limited the monthly Blog Patrol to articles related primarily to those three topics. I still follow a lot of other non-Children’s Ministry related blogs, and if I see something particularly appealing, I will be sure to pass that along. So, with that out of the way, let’s get on to the last weekly installment of the Blog Patrol. By the way, if you have any feedback about the change in format, I would love to hear about it. Enjoy!

Since last week was dedicated to articles about parenting, kids, and children’s ministry in honor of Father’s Day, there are a lot of stragglers this week. I tried to limit it to the “best of the best!”

Stragglers

These are the stragglers from the prior week which I either didn’t receive or find in time to add to last weeks Blog Patrol. Enjoy!

Monday Morning Prophecy #11 – Angels Would Praise Him

cross-pictureLast week we looked the prophecy from Isaiah about the Messiah’s name.  This week let’s look at yet another prophecy from the Old Testament over which Jesus had no control.  In Deuteronomy, Moses writes,

“Rejoice with him, O heavens; bow down to him, all gods, for he avenges the blood of his children and takes vengeance on his adversaries. He repays those who hate him and cleanses his people’s land.”  [Deuteronomy 32:43]

Although not as crystal clear as certain other prophecies, Moses seems to indicate that the heavens would rejoice over the coming of the Messiah and bow down to him.  Now, let’s turn our attention to a time roughly 1,500 years later when Jesus was born.  Luke records the following event after the angel appeared to the shepherds in the field to announce the birth of the Messiah:

This is the Happy Birthday to the Ministry-To-Children.com blog. They turned two this week. The terrible twos – I can’t wait to see what that brings! Seriously though, when it was just Tony writing over there the sight showed up regularly in the Blog Patrol. Now that they have a slew of talented writers, I have to force myself not to include all of their blog posts. Anyone in children’s ministry or interested in children’s ministry should definitely add Ministry-To-Children to their favorites and their blog reader. That said, here is a rundown of this week’s favorite blog posts (and, yes, there are a lot from Ministry-To-Children.com).
