cross-picture

Introduction

The purpose of the Messiah’s coming, and eventual death, was to be the salvation of all who would believe in Him.

Old Testament Prophecy

By oppression and judgment he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken. [Isaiah 53:8 NIV]

New Testament Fulfillment

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. [John 3:16 NIV]

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. [John 10:11 NIV]

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. [Romans 5:8 NIV]

For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. [Romans 6:9-10]

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, [Galatians 1:3-4 NIV]

For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, [1 Peter 3:18 NIV]

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. [1 John 2:2 NIV]
