Monday Morning Prophecy #41 – The Messiah Would be Called Lord

The prophecies of the Old Testament indicate that the Messiah would be called Lord. While this may seem like a given to us today, the Old Testament leaves no doubt about the title of the coming Messiah.

“Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet.” [Psalm 110:1 NIV]

Somewhere in the middle…

One of my favorite groups is Casting Crowns.  When they released their third studio album “The Alter and the Door,” the song “East to West” became an instant classic.  There is another song on that CD though that ranks as my favorite.  It speaks to my heart, but at the same time I find it to be one of the more convicting songs I hear as well.  Maybe that’s why I like it so much.  The song reminds me every time I hear it that my Christian journey is not complete, and it is only by the grace of God and for his glory that I continue to run the race.

The name of the song is “Somewhere in the Middle,” and I think the lyrics provide a valuable insight into how we, as American Christians, do live and how we should live our lives as devoted followers of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  Let’s have a look at the first couple of verses:

Somewhere between the hot and the cold
Somewhere between the new and the old
Somewhere between who I am and who I used to be
Somewhere in the middle, You’ll find me

Somewhere between the wrong and the right
Somewhere between the darkness and the light
Somewhere between who I was and who You’re making me
Somewhere in the middle, You’ll find me

Let us never forget…

One of the little girls in Sunday school this morning proudly told me that Psalm 118:1 was “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good.”  We were learning about Thanksgiving, and her point was right on track.  I told her that that was one of my favorite verses, and reminded her that the whole Psalm, indeed the whole Bible, was full of great points like this one to remember and build our lives upon.  When I got home this afternoon, I looked up Psalm 118 again to refresh my recollection.  I was not disappointed.  Anything I can say will pale in comparison to God’s word, so here is Psalm 118 with some of my favorite verses highlighted:

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
his love endures forever.

2 Let Israel say:
“His love endures forever.”
