Introduction
The coming Messiah was going to have some strong enemies. Indeed, the rulers and authorities of the earth would oppose Him.
Old Testament Prophecy
The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. [Psalm 2:2 NIV]
New Testament Fulfillment
But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus. [Matthew 12:14 NIV]
Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him. [Matthew 26:3-4 NIV]
The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. [Matthew 26:59 NIV]
Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people came to the decision to put Jesus to death. [Matthew 27:1 NIV]
Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus. [Mark 3:6 NIV]
