Introduction
One thing the Old Testament prophesied that the Messiah would do was to bring peace. In the famous Messiah verse of Isaiah, the prophet calls him the “Prince of Peace.”
Old Testament Prophecy
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. [Isaiah 9:6 NIV]
New Testament Fulfillment
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. [John 14:27 NIV]
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” [John 16:33 NIV]
You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. [Acts 10:36 NIV]
For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, [Ephesians 2:14 NIV]
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. [Philippians 4:7 NIV]
…and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. [Colossians 1:20 NIV]
Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. [2 Peter 1:2 NIV]
