Introduction
One of the important roles of Jesus is that he serves as the intercessor between his people and God the Father. The Old Testament prophesies that this would be one role of the Messiah.
Old Testament Prophecy
Truth is nowhere to be found,
and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey.
The LORD looked and was displeased
that there was no justice.
He saw that there was no one,
he was appalled that there was no one to intervene;
so his own arm worked salvation for him,
and his own righteousness sustained him. [Isaiah 59:15-16 NIV]
New Testament Fulfillment
Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died – more than that, who was raised to life – is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. [Romans 8:34 NIV]
Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. [Hebrews 7:25 NIV]
“Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. [Matthew 10:32-33 NIV]
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. [Luke 23:34 NIV]
