Introduction
The Messiah would not go to his death kicking and screaming. The prophecies of the Old Testament make it clear that He would willingly lay down His life for those who would put their faith in Him.
Old Testament Prophecy
Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. [Isaiah 53:12 NIV]
New Testament Fulfillment
Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last. [Luke 23:46 NIV]
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. [John 3:16 NIV]
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. [John 10:11 NIV]
