Introduction
The Old Testament is clear that the coming Messiah would fill a number of roles. One of those roles was that the Messiah would bring Israel back to God.
Old Testament Prophecy
And now the LORD says-
he who formed me in the womb to be his servant
to bring Jacob back to him
and gather Israel to himself,
for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD
and my God has been my strength- [Isaiah 49:5 NIV]
he says:
“It is too small a thing for you to be my servant
to restore the tribes of Jacob
and bring back those of Israel I have kept.
I will also make you a light for the Gentiles,
that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.” [Isaiah 49:6 NIV]
New Testament Fulfillment
You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. [Acts 10:36 NIV]
These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’ [Matthew 10:5-7 NIV]
He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.” [Matthew 15:24 NIV]
God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel. [Acts 5:31 NIV]
“From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised. [Acts 13:23 NIV]
