- Everything they do is based on volunteer base
- Services not necessarily run by paid staff
- Role of Children’s Pastor is to equip people within the church
- Not there to do it alone but empower people to run the ministry
- You as leader need to focus on what only you can do
- Certain things only you can do
- Other things you shouldn’t be doing
- Getting people involved in your team to carry out the work of the ministry
- Get your volunteers to own the ministry with you then they can do it
- Everyone goes through seasons of ministry
- Need to identify the need
- Not called to do it alone
- Have to be passionate about it
- If you don’t see it as vital, you can’t inspire others to do it
- Talking about key team of three Jesus spoke to
- Identifying people
- Jot down five people who help you the most
- Five key leaders that enable you to do what you do
- That will form the basis of your key team
- Have to spend time to build leaders
- When you know people, you tend to focus on their faults
- Look at people objectively
- Don’t think way they are now it the way they will always be
- Not just talking about people who are available
- Also need capacity
- May have someone with high capacity with little availability
- Still part of key team
- Capacity to impart to other people
- Think beyond just availability
- What does a key team look like?
- Current leaders
- Potential future leaders
- Wise heads – people with more experience
- How do you lead a key team?
- Key Team meetings
- Regular meetings
- Avoids long meetings
- Meetings shouldn’t compete with greater vision of the church
- Need to exhibit same devotion and loyalty to pastor as you would like them to show to you
- One-on-one meetings
- Regularly catch up one-on-one
- Set up a time for a phone call
- Plan and prepare for meeting
- Care for them – find out if they are OK
- You don’t just want them for what they can do
- Value them for them
- Focus on health not growth because healthy things grow
- Giving them time to talk to you
- Regularly catch up one-on-one
- Communicate Well
- Clarity in instruction
- Don’t need to say a lot of things in leadership, just need to say a few things often.

- Information, feedback and everything a leader will need for that weekend service
- Gives ownership and responsibility
- Leader’s meeting announcements

- Upcoming events to inform team
- Announcements for kids
- Team leader checklist
- Team leaders run short meeting before services
- Afterwards, get together for a short debrief
- Gives ownership to volunteers
- Give feedback to people
- Tell people ahead of time that you are going to give them feedback
- Give positive feedback as well

- How to lead a Key Team meeting?
- Find a time that can be consistent
- Works for you
- Works for majority of team
- Always make it worth their time
- Don’t be late
- Don’t just have a social hangout all the time
- Can be OK every few months
- Always come out with an outcome
- Action points
- Ensure everyone is connected
- You are pastoring them just as much as kids
- Work your way around the team
- Make sure connection is quality
