87% Not Ready for Apocalypse (Pew Research Forum)

So, one of the blogs I subscribe to is the Pew Research Forum’s blog.  They describe themselves as

The Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan “fact tank” that provides information on the issues, attitudes and trends shaping America and the world. It does so by conducting public opinion polling and social science research; by reporting news and analyzing news coverage; and by holding forums and briefings. It does not take positions on policy issues.

This morning’s entry on the blog was titled:

87% – Unprepared for the Apocalypse

It sounded interesting, so I had a look.  The story reports that 87% are “unprepared to protect themselves from even the most basic world-ending scenarios.”  The source of this information:  The Onion!

Then I remember the date today.  Kudos to the usually very straight faced Pew Research Forum for a very unique, very funny April Fool’s joke.  For those who might not know The Onion, it is one of the premier satirical news sites available on the internet.

By the way, the original article at The Onion, titled “Report: Majority Of Americans Unprepared For Apocalypse” is dated September 13, 2006 and is actually quite funny and worth a read.

Happy April Fool’s Day!
