Summer is here, and if you ask my kids this is the most exciting time of the year. This year, they are off at the beach for several weeks while dear old Dad is left behind to work and continue the normal routine. That said, there are a number of things coming up soon which I am very excited about this coming summer. I’ve written about many of them here before, but I thought I would list them out again here in chronological order. God willing, these are the things I am looking forward to this weekend:
1. June 13 is promotion weekend. This weekend at New Life Church Gahanna, I get a whole new set of Kindergartners in my K-1 room, and I can’t wait. We celebrated our new 2nd graders moving up last weekend, and we get a whole new crop to sow this weekend. It’s always a fun time of the year!
2. June 14 is a significant day in the kidmin world. That the day the free e-book What Matters Now in Children’s Ministry? is available in hard copy form.Read More
On the heels of missing the Orange Conference this year, I drowned my sorrows by booking my tickets and hotel for the Children’s Ministry Expo in Lexington, Kentucky. The conference falls on a Thursday and Friday, so my wife and I are going to travel Thursday morning, and turn the event into a nice road trip and long weekend.
This year’s Children’s Ministry Expo is taking place July 15 & 16 at the Lexington Center in Lexington, Ky. The Expo is put on by Kidz Blitz (Roger Fields) and is markedly different from other children’s ministry events. The purpose of the event is to showcase vendors. There are no formal breakout sessions or speakers as you might find at other conferences. Instead, there will be over 66,000 square feet of vendors showing you what they can do for your ministry and, hopefully, engaging your imagination and creativity for children’s ministry. At just $25 per person for admission to both days of the expo, the price is ridiculously affordable. I did not look much into the cost for vendors, but I understand that it is also significantly cheaper than other conferences. This should encourage a multitude of vendors.
In addition to the vendors, the Expo will feature a number of 20 Minute “Scoops” which are mini-workshops which will be conducted on the expo floor. These will offer practical ideas and product information. The schedule of Scoops is not available ahead of time and will be provided at the Expo. By the way, you’ve got to love the fact that they gave these things a name that conjures up images of ice cream! 🙂 In addition to Scoops, the Expo will feature a series of 40 minute “Sit-Ins.” These are open discussion led by children’s ministry experts on topics including:Read More
