The Children’s Ministry Blog Patrol (April 2010)

Childrens Ministry Blog Patrol

Welcome to The Children’s Ministry Blog Patrol. Every month we gather links from around the blogging world related to Children’s Ministry and issues important to those who work in Children’s Ministry. As always, there were a lot of great articles published this month in the world of Children’s Ministry. I hope you will take a few moments to check them out. I made another slight change this month. In prior months, if a series continued into the next month, I would simply wait until that month to include the article. Since this Children’s Ministry Blog Patrol is not published until the 1st Tuesday of each month, I have decided to include any additional installments in blog series that are published through the Monday preceding publication. Articles not part of a series will still have to wait until the following month.

To help identify what I view as the best, or most important, articles of the past month, I’ve added this little graphic next to titles of particularly pertinent posts. I think they’re all must-reads, but if you’re running short on time, you should make sure that you check out these articles at a minimum!

Orange 2010 – A Blogging Extravaganza

This past Thursday and Friday was the 2010 Orange Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Sponsored by the ReThink Group, the conference focuses on all things children’s and family ministry. Over 4,000 people involved in children’s ministry showed up and learned from the conference. Unfortunately, I wasn’t one of them. I was grateful that many of those who did attend shared what they learned through twitter and their blogs. On Saturday, I posted My Favorite Tweets from Orange 2010, in this post I shared all the blog posts related to Orange 2010 from the last week or so. I had originally intended to include these posts as part of tomorrow’s Children’s Ministry Blog Patrol for the month of April. However, given the 85 or so articles related to the Orange conference, I decided that these posts warranted their own showcase. I tried to weed out the blog posts related to contests during the conference and announcements of live feeds and get together that are already over, but some may have slipped through. If you appreciated the work these authors did to help educate those of us who could not be there, leave them a little love in the comments on their blogs!

UPDATE: JUST A FEW MERE HOURS AFTER PUBLISHING THIS “COMPREHENSIVE” COMPILATION OF ORANGE POSTS, MY GOOGLE READER RSS FEED IS ALIVE WITH NEW INSIGHTS AND POSTS AS PEOPLE DECOMPRESS AFTER ORANGE.  I EVEN STUMBLE ACROSS A COUPLE OF BLOGS THAT I HAD, FOR SOME INEXPLICABLE REASON, NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY FOLLOWING.  SO, CHECK BACK NEXT MONDAY (I AM GIVING EVERYONE A WHOLE WEEK) FOR AN UPDATE TO THIS LIST WHICH WILL INCLUDE THE ADDITIONAL POSTS.  HAPPY BLOGGING!

Kidmin Blog Madness – We Made It to Round 2 – Now Go Vote!

We did it! Dad in the Middle actually made it through the first round of Kidmin Blog Madness.  Coming out of the Eastern Division as a fifth seed, we squeaked by into the second round with fewer votes than anybody else who progressed past the first round.  Only the top vote getter in each division will move on to the next round.  The competition is stiff, and if I’m being realistic, I don’t see any way Dad in the Middle can make it to final round – which is not to discourage you for voting!  Go HERE now and vote Dad in the Middle.  A win in this round would be akin to Northern Iowa taking out Kansas.

Instead of stumping for votes this week, I thought a better use of this space would be to highlight the other fifteen blogs that made the second round.  I am familiar with all of them as every single one has been featured in the Children’s Ministry Blog Patrol.  A number of them were also featured in:

·        Top Ten Non Children’s Ministry Blogs That Those in Children’s Ministry Should Follow
·        Next Ten Children’s Ministry Blogs (#11-20)
·        Children’s Ministry Blogs – Up and Comers and Consistent Contributors
