Written by Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith, A Christmas Hymn first appeared on Amy Grant’s first Christmas CD appropriately titled “A Christmas Album.” It was released in 1983.

A couple of years back, I created a Christmas Carol Advent to count down the days until Christmas in song. In that advent, I concentrated primarily (though not exclusively) on more traditional Christmas music. This year, I thought I would update things a little bit and concentrate primarily on more contemporary songs. There is some overlap. I haven’t counted exactly, but I think there are four or five songs that appear in each. This year, we’re also adding a bonus song on December 26. Each song includes a video, a little information about the song, some commentary from yours truly, some questions for further reflection or discussion and the lyrics. I hope you enjoy the 2011 installment of the Christmas Carol advent.
