Tomorrow marks the beginning of the brand new CM Leaders Conference in Columbus, Ohio. I am looking forward to the conference for a number of reasons:

  1. This is a brand new Conference from the folks at INCM. ‘Nuf said.
  2. I have some great friends coming into town for he conference, and I am looking forward to spending time with them.
  3. I a looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends.

So, here are our plans for the conference.

I have to serve in Awana at my church on Wednesday night, so I am not available until later. I know some people who are coming into town early and are planning on going out to dinner. I’m bummed that I can’t go, but if you’re interested let me know and I’ll get you the information.

Thursday Morning

We’re planning on a meet-up at 10:00 AM tomorrow morning at Grove City Church of the Nazarene whe the conference is being held. We’ll be hanging out until the condense starts in the cafe at the church. Stop by and say “hi.” We’d love to meet you!

Why I’m going to the CM Leaders Conference and You Should Too!

I don’t get to go to a lot of children’s ministries conferences.  Between finances and, oh yea, my other full time job, the opportunity just doesn’t present itself very often.  That’s why I was excited earlier this year when Michael Chanley told me that the International Network of Children’s Ministers [INCM] was planning on bringing a brand new conference to Columbus, Ohio.  Well, finally the time has come, and INCM announced the inaugural:

The CM Leaders Conference is being help September 13-14, 2012 (that’s a Thursday and Friday) at Grove City Church of the Nazarene in Grove City, Ohio (which is a south-western suburb of Columbus).

Ministering to Children of Divorce and the Modern Family

Over the course of the last year, I have spent a significant amount of time on the newest ministry God has entrusted to me called DivorceMinistry4Kids.com.  Part of our mission at DivorceMinistry4Kids.com is to educate churches about the need to minister to children who have suffered through the divorce of their parents.  We have been pleased to partner with other people who share a similar passion.  One of those people is Amy Dolan from lemonlimekids.com.  Amy has been at the forefront in a effort to start the conversation about ministering to non-traditional families (including, amongst others, divorced and single parent families).  In fact, Amy has been gracious enough to offer to write a regular segment for DivorceMinistry4Kids.com called Answers With Amy.

RAIN FOR ROOTS (A Dad in the Middle Review)

rainforrootsBackground

There is a great new album coming out today for younger kids called Rain for Roots.  All of the songs on the album were written by Sally Lloyd-Jones  the author behind one of my favorite books ever – The Jesus Storybook Bible.  The music is performed by Sandra McCracken, Ellie Holcomb, Flo Paris and Katy Bowser.  You can buy the album starting today at RainforRoots.com or http://www.bandcamp.com/rainforroots.  If you use the special code “inthemiddle” when you place your order, you can save 10%.  The digital release also includes a pdf file of a booklet with chords.

My Review

There is lots of good music out their for kids that is Biblically based, and I would add this CD to that mix.  It is biblically sound, and it does a great job of putting your focus exactly where it should be – on God!  The folksy sound of the album is very different than most of what is out there, and I think it is a welcome addition.  The sound theology means you can safely use this album to teach your children biblical truth.  The soft sounds means you can also put it on at night and let them fall asleep to the sound of God’s truth.  I would recommend this album to people with younger children and those who do preschool ministry.  If that describes you, don’t miss your chance to win a free copy at the bottom of this article.
