Designing The Surge…Greg Baird [Kidmin Conference 2014]

Greg is an awesome guy, and it was great to hear him speak from the “big stage.”

Who loves superheroes?

What superhero would you be?

What superpower would you have?

We are not superheroes, but we are still in a battle. We are in a battle against evil spirits and mighty powers in this dark world. When we are in ministry, the battle becomes more intense and the target on us becomes bigger from the enemy.

We cannot surge ahead if we get knocked down or taken out of the battle. We are in a battle for the hearts and souls for the most vulnerable people on the face of the earth. We have to make sure we can stay in the battle.

Three Things That Can Take Us Out of the Battle

1. We Simply Try to Survive

Acts 20:24

We don't have to just survive. Our ministry is about Jesus and He is all that really matters. The ideas of surviving cripples us in the battle.

2. We Get Distracted

We live in a world with a lot of distractions. There is always more to follow up on and more to learn.

3. We Focus on the Wrong Danger

Sometimes we focus on the wrong danger. Don't be scared of the hummingbird when you should be scared of the snake.

We worry about numbers instead of life transformation.

Maybe we focus so much on out ministry we don't see the danger of our families falling apart.

We worry about the little things and ignore the big things that can bring us down.

When we start to do these three things, we are trying to do our ministry in our own power.

What do we do to combat these things?

Not by strength, nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord. (Zechariah 4)

It is about God and God alone. It's not about us.

To avoid distraction: emerse ourselves in the Word

Instead of focusing on the wrong danger: Focus on pursuit of God.

Impact does not come when we are pursuing impact. Impact comes when we are pursuing God. (Phil Vischer)
