Introduction
Continuing with the specific prophecies of the Messiah’s arrest, trial and crucifixion, we learn that the Messiah would indeed be killed.
Old Testament Prophecy
By oppression and judgment he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken. [Isaiah 53:8 NIV]
After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed. [Daniel 9:26 NIV]
New Testament Fulfillment
When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. [Matthew 27:35 NIV]
And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. [Matthew 27:50 NIV]
When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals–one on his right, the other on his left. [Luke 23:33 NIV]
Here they crucified him, and with him two others–one on each side and Jesus in the middle. [John 19:18 NIV]
