Monday Morning Prophecy #61 – The Messiah Would be a Shepherd to his people

Introduction

A couple of weeks ago, we looked at the prophecy that the Messiah would become a sacrificial lamb. This week, we will examine the prophecy that the Messiah would also be a shepherd to his people.

Old Testament Prophecy

He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young. [Isaiah 40:11 NIV]

“‘My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd. They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees. [Ezekiel 37:24 NIV]

New Testament Fulfillment

“‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.’” [Matthew 2:6 NIV]
