Sarcastics Anonymous

I have, from time to time, been told that I am a little bit sarcastic. No matter how hard I look, I can’t seem to find anywhere in the Bible where sarcasm is listed as a fruit of the spirit. Perhaps I should look into this kind of program

Sarcastics Anonymous from saraserves on GodTube.

  1. Ha! That was an ….. interesting video. Funny though. I feel there are two kinds of sarcasm. One is pretty clever and funny and the other is easy and cheap shots at other people (much like in this video). I was the brunt of the latter from my brother growing up. I don't know why I've hung onto this quote all these years, but from the book "A Separate Peace" sarcasm was described by one of the character as "the weapon of the weak minded."

I don't even know why I shared all of that. Wayne, thanks for posting the video. It was entertaining nonetheless.

  2. I'm with you on the two types of sarcasm. I'd like to think most of my sarcasm falls into the first category. I had two older brothers, so I'm very familiar as a recipient of the second type as well. 🙂 Of course, I have a younger brother too, so I've probably delivered my share too.

I did learn very early on as a parent though that you have to be very very careful about being sarcastic in front of your children. There is a very fine line between well done sarcasm and just plain rude, and children can get confused. They also don't really distinguish between the two types.

I like the quote. It's very similar to what I tell my kids about cursing when they ask me what's wrong with it. I explain 1) that people can be offended by those words; but 2) most importantly, they are a sign of someone who isn't smart enough to come up with a better way of expressing themselves. That of course, usually gets me into trouble when they respond, "So you're saying __________ isn't smart?" They usually fill in the blank with a family member. 🙂

Anyhow, thanks the comment. Hope all is well in sunny Texas!
