Welcome to a very special Thursday edition of Monday Morning Prophecy. I know that it sounds a little odd, but when you get the opportunity to have Reggie Joiner publish an article on your site on a Monday morning, you don’t say no. :) Tuesday we had the opportunity to participate in the exciting launch of the What’s In The Bible Curriculum, and Wednesday we introduced a great new resource. So, here we are….enjoy!

Introduction

In addition to Judge and Prophet, the Old Testament also prophecies that the coming Messiah would fulfill the role of Priest.

Old Testament Prophecy

The LORD has sworn
and will not change his mind:
“You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.” [Psalm 110:4 NIV]

Tell him this is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Here is the man whose name is the Branch, and he will branch out from his place and build the temple of the LORD. It is he who will build the temple of the LORD , and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.’ [Zechariah 6:12-13 NIV]

New Testament Fulfillment

Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. [Hebrews 3:1 NIV]

So Christ also did not take upon himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him,
“You are my Son; today I have become your Father.” And he says in another place,
“You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” [Hebrews 5:5-6 NIV]

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek. [Hebrews 6:19-20 NIV]

The point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, [Hebrews 8:1 NIV]
